207 – Ice age

misleading tranquility

The harsh wind pushes the water to the scaffolding where it can’t pass under. This “scaffolding” is filled with concrete and rocks. The water splashes upwards and the “shower” that is caused covers the scaffolding, which turns into ice. Every layer of water that freezes gives a surrealistic effect. But if the circumstances are this harsh, why doesn’t the rough water show on the photo? The photo gives the impression that the sea is also caught in ice. Due to the long shutter time, waves become one big blurry body, which makes it look like a layer of ice. If we ever get an ice age, then the IJsselmeer and the scaffolding near the monument would look exactly like this, at least in my opinion. The backlighting comes from the moon, thereby you are mislead by the lighting, because this picture was taken late in the evening.
